Objetivos de la Escuela de Verano ALAIC

The Summer School of the Latin American Association of Communication Researchers (ALAIC) is a meeting place for the Latin American communication research community[1]. Its purpose is to collaborate with the scientific exchange between Latin American professors and students.

The main emphasis of this Summer School is to provide individualized support to young graduate students (masters and doctoral), through a variety of forms of work: updating panels, theoretical-methodological feedback workshops, and specific advising to works in progress developed by the participating students.

Institucionalizar la Escuela de Verano

de los participantes a través del diálogo con los expertos internacionales y con otros participantes del curso.

Divulgar los trabajos mejor conceptuados de cada curso.

Publicar un trabajo colectivo (libro o una revista en impreso o digital) que reúna los mejores trabajos de cada curso.

Promover la integración entre los Programas

de Posgrado en Comunicación de la red de universidades participantes.

y redes de investigación internacionales

Promover el debate

internacional e interdisciplinario de alto nivel en torno a los temas elegidos.

The content offered by the Summer School is the equivalent of a four-credit blended course, with thirty hours offered in the classroom and thirty hours for the preparation of a paper, under the supervision of a designated international academic. The resulting article will be evaluated by a review committee created especially for this purpose. This course will be taught in Spanish and Portuguese, according to the main language of the participants.

The main activities of the Summer School are the following:

1) Panels composed of invited professors

whose theme will revolve around a previously established program. Its dynamics will consist of a presentation by each professor of between 15 and 20 minutes, followed by a dialogue based on the issues presented and discussed by the panelists, as well as on the topics and questions of interest expressed by the participating students. The participation of academics in these panels can be: face-to-face, through remote connections or videos. Due to the characteristics of the Summer School, one of the panels should be devoted to research methodology.

2) Feedback workshops

in which each student will present his or her doctoral or master's project, around which a theoretical-methodological dialogue will be established between the student and the guest professor. To develop this activity, a daily work goal will be previously established to guide the session and will involve the development and presentation of a written paper by each student.

3) One of the final results is that....

The final purpose is for each student to prepare an article to be disseminated, after a process of review. Each edition of the Summer School will seek to publish the best works in printed or digital format.
